Vertical Edge Athletics is a pole vault club for beginner to advanced vaulters. Our main purpose is to bring to high school and junior high kids advanced technical knowledge that can help them be successful and JUMP HIGHER! Pole vault is our main focus, but we also work with athletes from various other sports for speed and strength development.

Pole vault is a highly technical event. What you do and how you do it matters! Correct technique will allow you to jump higher not only this year, but it will open up your future potential.  Speed and strength also matters. Especially for young athletes - a LOT of improvement can be found by doing sport specific strength and conditioning. Our athletes spend time on the runway and pit, the track, the rope, and the high bar.

We pole vault and we have fun doing it. Not because we goof around, but because we WORK HARD, which helps us jump higher. Pole vaulting higher and higher... that's where the real fun is!

Achieving Potential - We are focused on helping each athlete achieve his or her own individual potential. Potential varies dramatically from athlete to athlete, but if each athlete is improving their own abilities towards their own potential, then they are succeeding! As much fun as pole vaulting is, the real value is in the life lessons each athlete learns - the self confidence they build, the emotional and mental aspects they master, and the work ethic they develop. At the end of the day this is what it is all about, and what Vertical Edge is all about.

About the Coach:

Kat Schauerhamer - that's me! I am a passionate coach. I absolutely love to coach pole vault. There is nothing greater than helping kids learn how to achieve their dreams. I love the event, and I love my athletes! I have 14 years of experience in the event - as a young athlete, a Division 1 Collegiate athlete, an elite athlete, and a coach. I am a USATF Level I Certified Coach. My passion is not only for pole vault, but for everything required to succeed at the event - strength, speed, flexibility and mobility, mental strength, and confidence. I vaulted for 3 years at Utah State University where I held the school record during my stay there. I have trained beyond that for 5 years, with some time off in the middle to start a family and heal some injuries. I am back to training. With a personal best of 13'10" I am back in the quest for jumping higher! I have a wonderful and supportive husband, Guy, and a 5 year old son, Brenden, who is definitely an athlete himself!

Here is a little bit of my story...

I fell in love with pole vaulting early in high school – I had the passion and the work ethic to go with my aspirations of competing at a D1 University… and even beyond that. All my hard work and passion only got me over 9’6”.
WHY?
Like many of you – I didn’t have an expert coach (or even a mediocre one!) .
There are lots of ways to run down the runway and jump onto those mats, but only the RIGHT way gets you to jump high and unlock your potential.
A KNOWLEDGEABLE COACH IS CRITICAL!
I had a turn of luck my junior year in college when I talked the pole vault coach at Utah State University into letting me walk on to the team. 18 months later I soared over 13’ to break the school record. A day I will never forget! I had all the potential… it just took a knowledgeable coach and the right training to get it out of me.  That was just the beginning. Today I am living my dream – an emerging elite and pushing to jump higher and higher.
I have learned so much that I wish I had known in high school. THAT is why I am coaching. To bring expert knowledge to the high school athlete. I want to help YOU unlock your potential and create days you will never forget.
Yes, there are RIGHT ways and WRONG ways to pole vault! There are critical technical elements holding many vaulters back from higher heights… and they can’t fix them because they don’t even know about them. That is what I am for. Come try working with an expert and see what a difference it can make.
